Seeking Justice

Justice is the work of the Church.  We can wish it wasn't and try to rationalize our distance from "political" topics, but the dignity of every human being is not a political issue. Poverty, sexism, racism, homophobia, health care, and the power over life and death are spiritual issues.

There are theological reasons we speak out on such topics, and the reasons to keep silent are all grounded in fear. We can not let fear keep the Church from speaking - we can not keep our mouths closed in the face of pain and brokenness. God is still speaking, and we will humbly echo the transforming message of love and grace that God offers the world as a balm for our human divisions.
