Open and Affirming

We believe that God is our creator and God made all people beautiful.  When we say our Church welcomes all people, we really mean all. Our welcome is not to change someone, or fix someone. Our welcome comes out of the same love we find in Christ.

Beyond welcoming, we advocate for the civil rights of all people, including gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and any other queer identity that some may seek to exclude.

We also confess that the Church has not done enough to extend hospitality, and has a special responsibility as scripture has been misused and manipulated to unfairly condemn GLBTQ persons for hundreds of years. We know that we must do more than raise a rainbow banner outside, so we work to make the Church family as welcoming as possible.

We study the scriptures that are often used to condemn, making sure such "clobbering verses" can be met with scholarship, faithful protest, and the bigger picture of God's endless love.

You are invited to use the resources on this page to explore scriptures, stories and faithful testimony. If you have further questions, you are welcome to share them with us.
